EMDR Consultation and Complex Trauma

Sarah Jenkins Whether a seasoned EMDR therapist, or one who is recently trained, we all know that clients with complex trauma don't necessarily "fit the mold." Maybe we become unsure as to why our use of standard EMDR protocol doesn't seem to be "enough." Perhaps we find ourselves feeling "stuck" with challenging cases, baffled by why a client destabilizes. It can be challenging when the traumatic material does not move as we learned it "should."

Clients with complex trauma and structural dissociation often require extensive stabilization measures, resources, and skill building tools. No matter whether working in an agency, or in private practice, as EMDR therapists working with complex trauma we may find that it is ethically and clinically necessary to seek additional EMDR consultation and clinical support. Trainings give us the "how-to" methods for addressing complex trauma; we then need to further develop and apply what is learned to specific cases. In doing so, we expand our ability to really feel and know what to do when we are with our clients. We can then experience our caseloads with a greater sense of ease.

You are invited to join an EMDR Consultation Group with Sarah Jenkins MC, LPC, CPsychol, specifically focused on supporting clinicians in the use of EMDR to treat complex trauma

EMDRIA Approved EMDR Training

As an EMDRIA Approved EMDR Training Provider the goal of my EMDR Training Course is to provide clinicians with a complete integrated training in EMDR therapy. This program supports clinicians in meeting the minimum standards established by EMDRIA, as well as specific additional curriculum in dissociation. The goal is to provide clinicians with the knowledge and skills to utilize EMDR therapy, a comprehensive understanding of case conceptualization and treatment planning, and the ability to integrate EMDR therapy into their clinical practices.

This EMDR Training Course is divided into Part One and Part Two, which include 31 hours of instruction and 21 hours of supervised practicum. In addition, there are 10 hours of consultation that must be completed and are included in the price of the course. My EMDRIA Approved EMDR Training is not limited to the Tempe, Mesa, Scottsdale, Gilbert, and Phoenix, areas and can be conducted out of state and internationally.

For more information on my EMDR Training Schedule including registration details, please go to the EMDR Training page.

EMDR Certification

Many EMDR therapists seek to expand their knowledge in EMDR therapy by pursuing EMDR Certification. My consultation services also include providing consultation for EMDR Therapists, nationally, as well as locally within the Tempe, Mesa, Scottsdale, Gilbert Phoenix, areas, to pursue their required 20 consultation hours for becoming an EMDRIA Approved Certified EMDR Therapist. As part of EMDR Certification, my consultees are strongly encouraged to deepen their confidence and skills in working with challenging cases of complex trauma.

Also, as an EMDR HAP Approved Consultant, I can also help those EMDR Therapists who have already completed some of their EMDR training through HAP to obtain the 10 consultation hours required to be fully EMDR Trained by EMDR HAP.

Equine-Assisted EMDR

As an Equine Therapist, and avid horsewoman, experience tells me that folks who know about EMDR and Equine Therapies intuitively "get" that these two therapies can be integrated. The challenge comes in that they can get "stuck" trying to figure out how to build a bridge so that these two modalities can be brought together.

Through my experience in both fields I created EquiLateralTM, the first EMDR protocol for integrating EMDR and Equine-Assisted Therapy. Based on the success of this protocol, I now offer EMDRIA approved workshops and a best practice training to share this innovative approach with others in the profession.

If you are an EMDR therapist or equine professional seeking to becoming involved in this therapeutic approach, you can learn more by visiting my site www.eaemdr.com.
